ABOUT
Jett Kowalchuk is a Métis award-winning filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. His films have received recognition at various festivals internationally, including receiving a Golden Sheaf award at Yorkton Film Festival, Best Director at the Saskatchewan International Film Festival, and official selections at festivals such as ImagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, Comox Valley International Film Festival, and YIKES! Film Festival. He has worked as a Camera Operator on network docuseries such as Guardians of the North and Fireline, as well as First Assistant Camera, Assistant Editor, and Digital Imaging Technician for broadcasters like CBC and Rogers.
Jett earned his BA in Creative Technologies at University of Regina, and is currently an MFA candidate in Media and Artistic Research, where he is making a documentary on Artificial Intelligence. Jett has acquired a comprehensive understanding of the digital media landscape, including visual literacy, graphic design, web design, filmmaking, animation, and AR design.
Some of Jett’s recent work has explored new ways to create with emerging technologies. This includes projects engaging with augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and mixing 2D and 3D animation. A strong focus in Jett’s work has been the relationship between humanity and technology, reflecting on the history of this relationship, and theorizing on how it will evolve in the future.
